About Career Developer
Connecting Education to Your Career Development
The goal of Career Developer is to provide everyone access to a wide range of career development resources that are free-to-use and easy to find.
Career Developer draws on the work of career specialists, educators, psychologists and related professionals. It is a product that was born out of analyzing over 2000 websites and selecting roughly the top 10% that are most relevant for helping learners gain self awareness, choose post-secondary programs, understand the world of work and grow into their careers. Most importantly the information in Career Developer is presented in a way that is easy to find and understand.
We believe that Career Developer supports the main argument of Surowiecki's (2004) best selling book The Wisdom of Crowds. For example, he explains that a group of people with different but good information and a way of gathering their viewpoints together will almost always provide a closer view of reality than a single expert (even those paid for their expertise).
So, what is the best way to think of Career Developer? Believe it or not, we like to think of it as your way to get the "crowds" advice. Let us explain what we mean.
The first purpose of Career Developer is to act as a "herder" of people and organizations with strong contributions in the career development field. We have reviewed thousands of websites to enable this resource to draw on the wealth of good information available from career specialists, educators, psychologists, and related professionals. An exciting feature of this research is that these resources are not only from Canada, but also from the United States and other parts of the world as well. We think of it as a global "crowd" helping you prepare for the global economy.
The second purpose of Career Developer is to act as a "guide" for you to access the collective wisdom of the "crowd". It is designed so that you are able to find resources you are interested in using and gain an understanding of what each of them can do for you. Most importantly, it gives you a variety of ways to search and provides the information in a straightforward manner so that it saves you time and effort.
